The question is no longer "Where's the beef?" It's become more like "Where's the beef from, and what was it fed?" Bill Daley, the meat team leader at Whole Foods, can answer these questions for you. "All of the farms that we use are certified as humane," says Daley. "It means a lot to a lot of people. We do 100 percent grass-fed beef – that's much healthier than the regular beef." It probably doesn't even need to be said, but you won't find any pink slime in the ground beef at Whole Foods. That attention to provenance goes beyond the meat department. "One of the great things about our store is that we really work with local vendors," says Tiffany Chiappetta, the marketing team leader. "We're really proud to have thousands of organic products to be able to offer to our customer base." So if you're looking for fancy mushrooms, fresh baked bread, excellent coffees or cheeses, bulk legumes, herb-infused soaps, or gluten-free pasta, Whole Foods will probably have it all. "It's a fun place to work and it's a fun place to shop," says Daley.
