The Farmington Valley Symphony Orchestra will feature Farmington High School senior Lillian Yim as cello soloist in a performance of the "Cello Concerto in E Minor" by Edward Elgar. Lillian has served as principal cellist of the Connecticut Youth Orchestra, the Tanglewood Young Artists Orchestra and the Curtis Summerfest Orchestra, and she has won top prizes from the Hartford Music Teachers Alliance, the Musical Club of Hartford, the CT-ASTA competition and the Nutmeg Symphony Orchestra.
The program of "British Favorites," to be conducted by Music Director John Brennand, will also present the FVSO's Concert Master Michael Winer as violin soloist in "The Lark Ascending" by Ralph Vaughan Williams. Winer, who grew up in Canton and graduated from Canton High School, is a freelance musician and educator in West Hartford where he maintains an extensive private studio.
Mendelssohn's Overture to "A Midsummer Night's Dream" and music from Gilbert and Sullivan's "Iolanthe" will complete the program.
