Info

Evanston's Living History is a documentary of racism in a town just north of Chicago. The filmmaker, Craig Dudnick, was inspired by the life of Viola Hillsman, the African American cook at Dudnick's college fraternity. A 1916 lynching in Abbeville, South Carolina is the incident that gave rise to this story. The family of the lynched man fled to Evanston, IL. What follows is an untold story of civil rights in action beginning in the 1930s. See the documentary tonight, and discuss with the filmmaker this important story of transformation in Evanston. Running time: 57 minutes. Registration is appreciated.
