Over a century had passed since the last authentic baseball game
had been played at the Nathan Hale Homestead, but last year we invited
two teams to take the field once again for our 1st annual Vintage Base Ball Game! Join us on Saturday, July 13th
at 11 a.m. as we welcome two teams from the Connecticut Vintage Base Ball
Association, the Thames Base Ball Club and the Woodstock Hilltoppers,
to witness a game played by the means and rules of yesteryear.
Authenticity is the name of this true gentlemen's game - cursing
will result in a 25₵ fine and an apology to the spectators! The game
will use hand stitched balls and the bats used are heavier and longer
than modern ones. Pitchers are known as hurlers, batters are called
strikers, and if the players want to roll up their sleeves, they'll have
to ask you first!
Cracker Jacks and other ball game concessions will be available for
purchase. So gather your history buffs and sports enthusiasts, bring
your lawn chairs, and join us for this family fun event!
$10 per person. Registration recommended.
