Wednesdays, May 15, 22, 29; June 5, 12, 19, 26, 6:30-7:30 p.m, Laughter Yoga, Family Wellness Center, 635 Main St., Middletown. Free. The Buttonwood Tree is excited to partner with the Community Health Center to bring a stress-reducing, fun program, to the CHC'S Family Wellness Center on Wednesdays in May and June. The free sessions are family friendly. Laughter Yoga, beside being fun, has both mental and physical health benefits. It stimulates a mild to moderate cardiovascular workout; it produces endorphins which counteract the production of stress hormones; it appears to optimize the immune system; it reduces self-consciousness and boosts self-confidence; and it relaxes muscles and helps fight chronic pain associated with muscle tensions. The Laughter Yoga program does not involve traditional humor or comedy. It includes conscious breathing, mindfulness, stretching and "laughtercises." Classes start with simulated laughter which evolves into genuine laughter. With playfulness and a release of ego, we light up and feel much better. Often it's completed by a short laughter meditation and guided relaxation. Hostess (Mimi Claire) Mylène Claire Poitras welcomes you in this space to tap into this Joie de Vivre (Joy of Life). She is a Certified Laughter Yoga Leader affiliated with the Laughter Yoga Institute of Laguna Beach and The Laughter Yoga University. She has been trained also as a Certified Laughter Leader with The World Laughter Tour.
