Throughout the month of March, Jane Penfield's award-winning pastel paintings will be available for viewing in the Community Room of the Lucy Robbins Welles Library. In addition, the artist will be hosting an Artist's Reception on Saturday, March 16, from 2-4 p.m. Refreshments will be served and the public is cordially invited to attend. On Wednesday, March 13 at 6:30 p.m., Jane will be offering a Pastel Painting Demonstration sponsored by the Newington Art League. The demonstration will be offered in the Ceramics Room of the Newington Senior & Disabled Center.
Artist Jane Penfield is drawn to nature, as well as to the human influence upon it. She works primarily in pastel, and is especially attracted to elements that evoke light, drama, and emotion. Her work is an impression of light and life as she has experienced it through walking, travel, and direct observation.
Her work has won numerous awards, including a recent Best In Show at the Tolland County Art Association. She was an award winner in the 2017 Pastel 100 competition, and featured in the April 2017 edition of the Pastel Journal. Jane is a Signature Member of the Connecticut Pastel Society, a juried member of the Pastel Society of America, Lyme Art Association, Academic Artists Association, and other organizations. She also serves as President of the Board of Directors of the Arts Center East, in Vernon, CT. her work has also been included in juried exhibits at the Slater memorial Museum and the New Britain Museum of American Art.
The exhibit may be viewed during regular library hours when the Community Room is not being used for a scheduled program: Monday - Thursday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Viewers are strongly encouraged to call prior to traveling to the library to ensure that the room is available for viewing at the desired time. The exhibit is free and open to the public.
