Step into Red Lulu in South Norwalk and your senses are arrested by the dark surroundings, the DJ’s sounds and the vibe. And that’s even before your taste buds have even touched the tequila. Six variations of margarita are made for customers’ pleasure, from the “red lulu” (with two types of tequila, fresh lime, crushed cranberries and cane syrup) to the “sangrita” (tequila, Grand Marnier, tomato juice, fresh orange and lime). The bar/restaurant, a relative SoNo newcomer, has an extraordinary, eye-watering selection of platinum, reposado and anegjo tequilas to devour, plus favorites like the mojito and caipirinha. Wine is also on the drinks list but, really, ordering wine in Red Lulu is missing the point. The venue, which earned a “worth it” recommendation from the New York Times in January, is open until 2 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
