The Polish National Home is really a must-visit for anyone -- out-of-towner or out-of-touch local -- who wants to experience the glory of Hartford. The building itself resembles a fortress-like bank or a Masonic Temple or something official and imposing like that. But inside it’s a wonderful Polish club, with lots of Hartford history and Eastern European charm. There’s a bit of a time-warp feel in there -- the bar could have walked out of 1958, which is awesome. And, like the building, the food is solid, like good Polish food should be, with all the pierogies, stuffed cabbage and potato pancakes a body could want. Added bonus: once in a while the place hosts a top-notch jazz show.
