You want falafel? Anyone in town will tell you where to go: Mamoun's. They're open 365 days a year, until 3 a.m. Yes, even on Christmas, and I know this because I tested this last year and had my first ever Yuletide falafel. Bellal Chater stopped by with his kids Wasim and Tamir, along with their spokesperson and business person who, as we know from previous years, prefers to remain anonymous. "We're consistent. Good quality. We haven't cheated or cut corners. Everything's pretty much the same as it was when we opened 35 years ago," says the mystery man. The hummus is out of this world. The shawarma is killer. Looking for something less predictable? Try the moujedra, the ful madammas or the Syrian rice. And then some baklava and Turkish coffee for dessert. And though it's not widely discussed, Mamoun's is B.Y.O.B. as well, which helps to make for an even more affordable meal. In recent years, they've been showing up remotely at more and more festivals, so don't be surprised if you can satisfy that falafel craving at various outdoor locations this summer.
