Thanks to their two locations, one in New Haven and one in Hamden, Kumo has got us excited about eating Japanese food. "We encourage our chefs to be original, both sushi and hibachi," says Hamden Manager Frieda Wu. "From what I've dealt with over the six years I've been there, we have the craziest hibachi chefs ever. Especially Tony in New Haven. Everyone loves Tony." Kumo has always got some kind of deal going on, the most popular of which is their half-priced sushi (New Haven: Mon-Sat., 4:30-10 p.m. & Sun., all day; Hamden: Mon-Sat. 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Sun., all day), but they also post coupons here in the Advocate, on their Facebook page, to their mailing list and even via text (text "kumo" to 77948). "We want to give you guys deals," says Wu. "You'll never have to pay full price. And we pride ourselves on getting the freshest sushi possible." It's still in the works, but there are plans to open a third Kumo in Stamford.
